Charles Ackerman passed away July 7,.2014. Charles was never a man to sit idly by. He served in the US Army during WWII and the Korean War. Once his military service was completed he returned home to Illinois, where he became a Master Carpenter. Being a Master Carpenter took Charles all over the country. He worked for people such as Robbino Ladd, Jack Crosby, and Ryland. After 57 years, he retired to their summer home in sunny, warm Florida. Charles spent a lifetime traveling, camping, and fishing with his family. He loved to spend days fishing on his boat and hosting fish-fries for family and friends. He spent many peaceful evenings fishing and shrimping off the causeway in Florida. Were he loved to share that love of fishing most of all with his granddaughter Charlie Mae, who shares his birthday and was named after him. When he wasn't fishing he was building something in the backyard, from birdhouses to gazebos. He loved sharing his passion for carpentry with anyone who wanted to learn. No one will ever forget Charles' passion for naps, chocolate, caramels, and telling you "I was watching that" when you tried to turn the channel when he was napping in his recliner. He was a loved man and will be missed. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Beverly Bruce Ackerman; his son Rodney Ackerman (Carol), of McHenry IL; his daughters Resae Robinett (Charles), of Iriving, TX; Rhonda Roberts, of Melbourne FL; and Rachel Ackerman, of Melbourne, FL. He is survived by 10 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by son Ralph and daughter Pamela; his parents, and 4 brothers and 3 sisters. We will always remember his warm smile, his passion for building, and most of all his love for fishing.
