Kay Tyre passed away Thursday July 27, 2017 in her sleep during a brief stay at Viera Rehabilitation Facility. The daughter of George and Lydia Wacker, she was born and raised in Newark, New Jersey. After graduating from high school she attended Syracuse University where she received her BS in Nursing.
Upon graduating she joined the Air Force and served her country as a young nurse stationed at Brookley Air Force Base in Alabama. In 1952 she fell in love and married a young Air Force officer, Ronald Tyre of Daytona Beach, Florida. They were happily married for 63 years before Ron, the love of her life, passed away in 2015. Kay and Ron shared many wonderful memories while raising a loving family.
As an Air Force wife, Kay provided a loving home for Ron and their three children as they moved from Florida to California to Virginia and back to Florida. Devoted to her family, she took the extra steps to make sure her children were happy and well rounded by encouraging them in their education, involving them in sports, attending church with them on a regular basis, and instilling in them the values that would make them successful in life.
Always active Kay enjoyed swimming, snow skiing, painting and shared her husband's love for sailing. Their passion for sailing took them on adventures to many exotic spots in the US, Australia, New Zealand and the Caribbean. Kay's favorite trips were the many she and Ron spent cruising on Eagle I and II in the Abacos with family and friends. Whether she was exploring the local islands, snorkeling along the reefs, fishing for dinner, or playing with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, Kay enjoyed life and brought joy to all those around her.
Kay is survived by daughter Lori Martin of Tallahasse FL, son Ron Jr. of Rockwood TN, son Dean of Suntree FL, their spouses, seven grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday August 26th to celebrate Kay's life, and the fact she is now with her Lord and Savior. The service will be at 5 PM at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Satellite Beach, Florida. Internment will take place at Veterans National Cemetery in Cape Canaveral, Florida at a later date.
In lieu of flowers in memory of Kay, the family suggests that donations be made to Global Outreach International earmarked for the medical mission boat "Caribbean Grace".

Dad's sailing gear was donated to friends who have a ministry on the east coast of Nicaragua. They have recently built a large catamaran called Caribbean Grace to carry doctors and dentists to villages upriver where there are no roads. They are funded through Global Outreach International.
