Carol led a life so many can so much as dream to lead. It was full, it was joyous, it was passionate, and beautiful, it was exciting, and it was wonderful. Carol Jane Mulcahy was a woman of great heart- full of great love for the people, the places, and the world around her. Born in Queens Village, New York on April 16th, 1929, she grew up alongside her brother and sisteror as they would say, "sista". A graduate of Adelphi University, she became a nurse and eventually went on to become an attendant with The Flying Tigers- where her great adventure started. She met her husband, George Mulcahy, through the Flying Tigers; he was a pilot. A true wanderer, she would explore everywhere from Hawaii to Germany and all that lie between. The stories she would come to tell about her adventures made those listening never want to stop. Together, her and George would build a family of three beautiful girls- Karen, Jennifer, and Bridget- whom she loved with her whole heart. Years later, she would be introduced to her granddaughters, her "bundles of joy", as she would call them- Meghan and Cassidy. As the story for many go, there were trials and there were tribulations. Carol however, was a rock. Strong in the face of adversity, Carol became a pillar of strength as she was a champion for her family in the face of Huntington's Disease. She became an advocate and supporter of this illness that brought so much darkness into the world. Among the Huntington's Foundation, Carol gave all she could to the organizations she was so passionate about; Greenpeace, Unicef, World Wildlife Fund, The Smithsonian Institution, and the Sierra Clubjust to name a few. She had a wild passion to help others, and was a light in so many lives. A woman of many trades, she was a Life Master in bridge. Always so thrilled to play the game, and so grateful for the friends she met through it along the way. She loved her beach just about more than she loved anything in the world. "Grandma's Ocean", it became known as. For as long as many knew her, you could always find her within a few steps from her happy place, her ocean, where she will forever be free to wander just as she has always loved to do. While she will be terribly missed, I think we can all agree on one thing: our lives have been forever changed by Carol Jane Mulcahy. A woman of true beauty. To our mother, our sister, our grandma, our aunt, our friend, our heroWe love you, always.
