..Carol Jose

Military wife, schoolteacher, corporate executive, author, journalist, civic leader, chef, mother, aunt, sister, Mémé, great grandmother, and dear friend, died peacefully December 8, 2020 at William Childs Hospice House, Palm Bay, Florida.

Carol had a full life! She traveled the world, raised 4 kids, spoke 4 languages, and made a powerful positive difference in the lives of so many.  In the 1960s and 70s, she was a civilian working for the US Foreign Service, a graduate of the Defense Language Institute, living in Paris, California, Hawaii, and Thailand.  In the early 80s she was a high school teacher, attending UCF at nights earning her MBA.  It was then she moved to Melbourne to work for Harris Corporation as Director of College Recruiting, attracting our nation's top engineers to move to Brevard County. Awarded Brevard's "Woman of the Year," Carol was honored to be president of the Brevard Cancer Society and dedicated to local women's and children's causes like Sally's House.  Many throughout Brevard County knew Carol for her weekly column "The Food Queen" that ran in Florida Today for 20 years.  As a gourmet chef, she reviewed local restaurants, interviewing emerging chefs and nationally known greats like Julia Child and Todd English.  In the 90s and 2000s, she was happily married to her husband Dale and dedicated to her love for writing, completing 10 published books and numerous national magazine articles.  Her award-winning works included "The Sign of the Golden Grasshopper," an account of the life of Sir Thomas Gresham, Financier to Queen Elizabeth and founder of the Royal Exchange, and "You are Not Forgotten", written with fellow military widow Evelyn Grubb about Eve's POW/MIA husband Newk, their family, The National League of Families and the history of the POW/MIA flag.

Carol will not be forgotten.  She left a legacy of love and is survived by her brother and sister, 4 children, 8 nieces and nephews, 7 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, and many dear friends. She will be buried in Arlington with her first husband, Ray Harper,  Pilot, US Army.  In lieu of flowers, please send donations in her honor to either Sally's House http://friendsofsallyshouse. org or The Orange Duffel Bag Initiative, https://theodbi.org two causes helping children in need succeed.
