Carol Jean (Sangeleer) Hakkila was born on Christmas Eve 1939 in Waltham, Massachusetts. She died surrounded by family on November 27, 2023.
Carol was the oldest of four and last surviving child of Eleanor Josephine (Kelley) and Leo Sangeleer.
She met her future husband, Edward Hakkila, while roller skating when she was 16. A 1957 graduate of Weymouth High School, she attended Northeastern University for a year while working full time to support her family financially.

While raising their three children, Carol renewed her college education and graduated with honors from Cape Cod Community College in 1974 with an AA in Nursing. She worked at Mayflower House Nursing Home in Plymouth until moving to Florida in 1980.
After earning her Bachelor's degree from Barry University in 1987, she completed an MBA in Aviation from Embry-Riddle University in 1990. She spent the most of her career as a nurse manager for Holmes Regional Medical Center until retiring in 1994.
