Obituary

Barbara "Janet" Wilson, 83, of Melbourne, Florida, formerly of Homestead, FL, entered Heaven's gates on January 25, 2020 at Holmes Regional Medical Center. Born July 13, 1936, in Rocky Mount, NC, she is predeceased by her parents, Clyde and Retha Ferrell of Rocky Mount, NC, and her siblings Judy, Lou, Della, Mickey and Geraldine.

Survivors include her brother Pat (Ann) Ferrell, her three children, Debra (Richard) Beckner, Chad (Mary) Diener and Alicia (Lane) Hegwood, her grandchildren Gussie Ray Smith, Brandy (Chad) Buschel, Billy Smith, Hollie Star Smith, Justin Diener, Sara (Kevin) Jue, Bonnie Stewart, Crystal Diener, Kristen Smith, Lauren Hegwood and Bethany Hegwood, her great-grandchildren- Cassandra, Blake, Emma, Alexander, Alex, Anthony, Jack, Morgan and Hudson.

In 2005 Barbara was diagnosed with Alzheimer's, a truly devastating disease.  Prior to this diagnosis, she was a strong, independent southern bell who loved to travel the globe. Her favorite travels took her through Europe and Australia.

Barbara was a retired telecommunications worker and a member of the CWA. She enjoyed antiquing, quilting and reminiscing about times gone by.  She was an avid collector and appreciated finer things in life. Although she never learned to swim, she enjoyed the beach and cruises.  Once she had gone canoeing and although she "couldn't swim", she was the first to make it to land.

Barbara was a loving and giving mother and was very proud of her children. Debbie previously successfully ran a department of a large hotel in Ocean City, MD and currently works in the medical field. Chad is skilled and capable mechanic who can restore vintage vehicles with unrivaled expertise.  Alicia also works in medicine and is working towards developing best practice for the healthcare community. Barbara will be greatly missed.

Private services will be held at a date TBD. The family wishes to thank those who have extended thoughts, prayers and emotional support for Barbara during her final days. We ask that in lieu of flowers, donations are made to Alzheimer's Association @ https://www.alz.org/nca/donate
