IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Angela Saenz
Jimenez
November 22, 1935 – June 1, 2020
Angela Sáenz Jiménez , 84, of Rockledge, Florida, was born on November 22nd, 1935, and rose to heaven on June 1st, 2020.
Angela was born in the famed province of Andalusia Spain, to María Luisa and Angel, and was raised with her four siblings in the city of Seville.
Angela emigrated to the United States in 1957, settling in Manhattan, New York City, and speaking only Spanish and French. She quickly learned English, earning Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Education. Angela became a school teacher in the New York City public schools, one of the first to teach in the city's new and innovative Bilingual Education program. She retired after over 20 years as a much-loved and respected teacher.
In 1985, Angela married the late Germán Jiménez Cruz. Germán and Angela were very happy together, and especially enjoyed gardening, music, and traveling.
Angela is survived by an older sister, Pilar; four daughters, Maritza (Robert) Ryan, Deborah (Steven) Phelps, Wilma (Jeffrey) Fisk, and Karen Sáenz ; ten grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Angela loved all animals, especially her Yorkie, Ginger; her parakeet, Chico; and Sampson the German Shepherd, with whom she is pictured.
Angela enjoyed and encouraged in her daughters an appreciation for the arts, literature, and Spanish culture. One of her favorite works, from which she often quoted, was the play, La Vida es Sueño, written by Pedro Calderón de la Barca during Spain's Golden Age in the 17 th century.
¿Qué es la vida? Un frenesí.
¿Qué es la vida? Una ilusión,
una sombra, una ficción,
y el mayor bien es pequeño;
que toda la vida es sueño,
y los sueños, sueños son.
What is life? A frenzy.
What is life? An illusion,
a shadow, a fiction,
and the greatest good is but small;
for all of life is a dream,
And dreams themselves dreams are.
A celebration of her life will be held in July in Rockledge, Florida. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to her favorite charities, St. Jude's Hospital and the ASPCA.
The family wishes to extend their thanks and gratitude to the VITAS Hospice of Rockledge for the compassionate care they gave Angela in her final days, which she spent surrounded by her family.
Angela's last words were:
"Me voy ahora. Se está abriendo. Estoy subiendo."
"I leave you now. It is opening. I am going up."
