Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Andrew "Andy" John Hanusich Sr., 94, of Palm Bay, FL, who passed away peacefully at home with his loving family at his side on December 14, 2023. He was the beloved husband of the late Shirley Pipcho Hanusich of 54 years, who preceded him in death on September 1, 2015.

Formerly from "The Patch" section of Dunmore, PA, he was born in Scranton, PA, on October 9, 1929, and was the son of the late John and Anna Regan Hanusich. He was a graduate of Dunmore Senior High School class of 1947, a graduate of Johnson's Trade School, a U.S. Navy veteran, and a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Palm Bay, FL. Throughout his lifetime, Andy worked as a carpenter for Carpenter's Local Union 261 (currently 445) until his retirement in 1994 when he and his wife Shirley moved to FL to enjoy the warmth and sunshine.

Andy was a family man with an active, adventurous lifestyle who loved being outdoors. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, boating, flying with his friends and attending air shows, as well as various ethnic festivals and church picnics. He also played the accordion in the Navy where he developed his love of Polka music. Andy enjoyed attending concerts, musicals and comedy shows. In addition, he liked to cook and would annually make his homemade kielbasa. Most of all, he adored his time spent with family and fur babies, while entertaining everyone with his stories and fun sense of humor. His hard-working and funny personality made him an unforgettable person that will be missed by many.

Also surviving are a son, Andrew Hanusich Jr., Dunmore, PA; a daughter, Karen Hanusich Burnett, Palm Bay, FL; a son-in-law, Uriel Wilson, Sebastian, FL; four grandchildren, Nicole Hanusich, Dickson City, PA, Brianna Hanusich, Throop, PA, Zion Wilson, Vero Beach, FL and Caleb Wilson, Sebastian, FL; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and loving friends.

He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Hanusich Wilson, DVM; two brothers, Michael and John Galada; and two sisters, Mary Galada Shihinski and Gloria Hanusich Wells.

The family would like to thank everyone for their love and support, especially those who cared for him over the past few years.
