Alice Zuiderveen Dekker died on Jan ua ry 6, 2022, of natural causes , after a br ief illness and decline over the last few years.
Alic e was a devoted w ife , mo the r, and grandmother, who always made those who came to visit feel loved and welcomed. She was a great cook and a great organizer for planned events . Her motto was always " Plan and prepare as much as possible , as ea rly as you can ! " Her four chi ldren Pam, Susan , John , and Steve always felt her love as she cared for them even as she often had them to herself as her h usband Henry was often gone on business trips. She always rejoiced in her role as a stay at home mom, and later on was always a caring ref uge t o her grandchildren if they were ever under the weather. She and her husband Henry D ekker were often entertaining family, and friend s, giving Alice great pleasure and an opportunity to use her gifts. A firm believer in the Chr istian faith from h er youth, she t rusted in the birth, death, and resurrection of h er Savior Jesus Christ for the sins of His people and as the hope of the world, and in the sure hope of the bodily resurrection from the dead to new life at the end of this p resent age.
Alice was born on Au gust 26 th , 1929,, in McBain, Michigan to Cody and Netti Zuiderveen, dairy farmers in that upper Michigan town. She attended Norther n Christian High School in McBain, and after High School she moved to Grand Rapids , Michigan where she met and later ma rried He nry Dekker on November 22, 1951. The same day, Henry received his draft notice, and was drafted into the Marine Corp, no t un common during the Korean War, where he s erv ed for 18 months. Alice live d with Henry ' s parents during that time. She was r aised on the dairy farm as a simple farm girl, but enjoyed many ad ventures in life as Henry ' s work took them from Grand Rapids to Detroit, Chica go, and Atlanta, with a short stint in Ohio, and finally back to Atlanta, where they remained until 1992 with re tirem ent to Melbourne , FL . During their married life, He nry and Alice made several trips to Europe, with a trip to Jap an after her son Steve moved and married there.
She is surv i ved by her sister Norma Karsten, who is last of the 8 siblings of her family . Sh e is also survived by her d aughter Pam and son-in-law Robbie Peele , grand children Deborah, Chr istine, Matt h ew, Beth and their son Smith; daughter Susan and son-in-law Doug Mann , gran d child Steph en (engaged to Sar ah) ; son John and d aughter -in-law There se D e kker, grandchildre n Ryan, Nicholas, and Natalie; and son Steve and d aughter-in-law Keiko and grandchildren David and Rika D ekker and the ir 2 children, and Daniel.
