Obituary

Alice E. Seeley, age 100, peacefully passed away on September 30th, 2023 at Platinum Oaks ALF in Melbourne, FL. Her beloved partner, Gene Cruz, was by her side as he had been for the past 73 years.

Born in Princeton, NJ, she was the daughter of the late George and Ida Conover. Her neighbor was Albert Einstein, who would visit her family often. Alice held several positions over her lifetime including a singer, secretary at the NJ Arsenal, assistant to the president of Miami Bank, and owned a Dairy Queen which she and Gene ran in Miami, FL. She owned several homes over the years in Miami, FL Keys, Naples, and eventually settled in Melbourne, FL.

She had very strong faith and read her bible daily. Everyone who knew Alice knew of her love of travel, music, and dancing!  She learned to play piano from her mother at the age of eight, and could play any song by ear, as she never fully learned how to read music. She would buy a new record every month and had built up quite a collection of 40/50s music. She and Gene would go dancing every Friday evening with good friends, where they would literally dance to every song of every set. Music kept her young and in great health, along with her daily routine of vitamins, healthy cooking, and the occasional glass of red wine. She was a wonderful cook and loved to throw dinner parties and set a beautiful table. Mostly, she loved her family with all her heart.

She is survived by her partner, Gene Cruz; daughter, Karen Grey Seeley; daughters-in-law: Lucille Gage and Sandy Mansfield; grandchildren: Scott Holmes (Gina), Shaun Bridges (Glenn), Leigh Gage, Lynn Claudio, Matthew Gibson, Jeffrey Gibson; great grandchildren: Eric Bridges (Amy), Spencer Claudio (Selena), Lauren Bridges (Steve), Kristen Bridges, Luke Holmes and Austin Holmes; great great grandchildren: Mila Beth Hernandez and Mila Rose Claudio. She was predeceased by her husband, Alan Seeley; son, Jeff Gage; daughters Gwenn McCabe and Krista DuPont; sisters Irene Fouratt and Bertha Carson (who also lived to 100), and brother George (Buddy) Conover. During her lifetime Alice loved her 4 dogs, who all had the name Shu-Shu.

The celebration of life service will be held on December 2nd, 2023, at Davis Seawinds Funeral Home, Melbourne, FL at Noon.
