Obituary

Aimee Joyce Heusinkveld, age 94, of Melbourne Beach, passed away peacefully on April 16, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was born December 27, 1930, in Iowa, the beloved daughter of Nellie Brink and John Van Peursem.

Aimee was preceded in death by her sister, Blanch Schultz.

Growing up on a farm in Iowa, Aimee developed the resilience and independence that would define her life.  In high school, she was both an accomplished athlete and a spirited leader - playing basketball, cheering for her school, serving as class president, and graduating as valedictorian. After high school, she worked as a bookkeeper and played the organ for her local church.

Aimee moved to Florida with her husband and two young daughters in 1957. Her son was born the following year. Ever determined to grow and serve, she attended Brevard Community College, earning her nursing degree. She dedicated much of her career to Holmes Regional Medical Center, working in the Coronary Care Unit before moving into management, education, and leadership roles. Aimee was recognized as Employee of the Month and was known among her colleagues for her professionalism, compassion, and even-tempered nature.

Aimee lived life with a spirit of adventure and a deep love for family. She enjoyed traveling, playing tennis, bicycling, snow skiing, bridge, cross-stitching, and treating loved ones to dinner at the Chart House. She especially treasured family time, whether traveling together or playing countless games of Phase 10.

Aimee was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She made time to build individual relationships with each member of her family, always making them feel deeply loved and valued. Her family and friends describe her as amazing, strong, spirited, kind, gracious, warm-hearted, and quietly humorous - a bright spot in the lives of all who knew her.

A woman of strong Christian faith, Aimee served her church community as an usher and scripture reader.  She was devoted to giving back, volunteering at The Woman's Center, the King Center, and working at the polls during many elections.

Aimee is survived by her brother, Russell Van Peursem; her children: Vicki Hawks, Michele Wrapp, and Craig Heusinkveld; her grandchildren: Sara Houston (Brendan), Tiffany Raina (Karan), Michael Wrapp (Allie), Melissa Wrapp, Daniel Wrapp (Christina), and Spenser Heusinkveld; and her great-grandchildren: Sienna Houston, Grady Houston, Kaius Raina, and Shay Raina.  She is also cherished by many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 10, at 11:00am at the Community Chapel of Melbourne Beach.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Woman's Center of Brevard.
